Focused in soundwaves creation and manipulation, Vels can make sounds loud enough to break glass or even bones, or he can make perfect silence. He can hear every conversation in the city at every moment of every day (but he's gotten damn good at finding the ones that matter). His suppressants push his abilities down to a 100 yard diameter, so ... that's better, right?

For what it was worth, it had not even slightly occurred to Vels that the gun that Peter Gomorrah had been talking about was not the one that resided in his shoulder holster. It was almost an endearing expression and realization to watch wash across the man's face. His eyes grew wider and wider as he processed what Larissa (and apparently Peter) had implied and his eyes looked down as if he had never once realized that a metaphor could have been used for that piece of his body.

He went bright red, but shoved the statement under the table without another thought. That was an entirely inappropriate topic to discuss between a man and a woman as far as he was concerned. (Which was likely much of the reason that his relationship with the girl he was infatuated with was as confusing as it was.)

For half a second he hesitated when she made the new stipulation and then decided to go for it anyway. "Assassination attempt; one thousand." He agreed taking her hand and shaking it.

He laughed aloud at her statement about hearing things. He cocked his head slightly, waiting for her to remember his ability and then said: "I've got his really cool, totally unimaginable gene -- gives me extra abilities. You might have heard of it." he joked and then pointed towards a table all the way across from them. Two women sat, whispering about plans for a wedding, which Larissa could hear as if she was at the table with them. Then he pointed at a man who was sitting alone on his phone. She would be able to hear the conversation with his friend who had just gotten really busy; could they have a rain date. Showing off was one of his favorite activities, so the set up was as invited as someone buying him a drink or complimenting his attire.

Larissa snorted at Vels expression as the realization about the saying dawned on him. She shook her head. “How do you manage to get on as well as you do?” She said. Honestly. It was mind boggling how he could be both the most naive person under the Dome and still one of its most dangerous. How he’d worked his way up both through the Cartel and the DEA was a feat not to take lightly. And though she was sure some of his cluelessness and unassuming nature was partly an act--she knew well enough how clever he was.

Their bet was made and Larissa mentally made a note to make sure Bruce never found out about it.

Larissa rolled her eyes but getting to experience his power was always a favorite of hers. She never ceased to be amazed at his control and range, even on Suppressant. “Oh, excuse me for thinking you did it the normal way and actually had a conversation with someone.” No wonder he knew all about Lizzy.

“Doesn’t it ever get old?” She asked taking a drink. “People’s lives are so...mundane...and boring. Why even bother listening?”

If Vels had been a different man, the conversation could have gone an entirely different direction. There had been stories, true and exaggerated, about telepaths that had gone to drastic measures to get rid of the voices in their heads. He heard every conversation with in a 100 yard diameter at any given moment; he heard all the rats in the walls, all the dogs fighting for scraps in the streets.

He heard every whisper; every truth; every lie; every heart beat; everything breath.

There was no one who would have made the argument that Vels Kruger was a well rounded home-town boy. Looking at him put that category to the wayside. So his answer was not the one that she might have received from someone else, but perhaps it was exactly what she could have expected.

He grinned.

It went from one side of his face to the other. "Oh, nonono." he said shaking his head as if it was all one word instead of three that he said in quick succession. "It's awesome. Like, if you want to have dirt on Sally from Marketing, I've got a portfolio. And!" He chimed, "Sometimes you hear something so cool. Like -- you can be a hero 'cause you hear something that you weren't listening for! And you call in an anonymous tip of where someone's hiding out and the DEA flies in all: stick 'em up." It was an interesting statement coming from someone who was in the DEA, who knew the actual expectations of the organization, mocking the way that they did things by using a phrasing usually reserved for the bank robbers in the Old West.

He teased, "Some of us want to be the good guys." which was rich coming from a Cartel Capo.

Larissa rolled her eyes. “But why do you--or anyone--care about Sally from fucking marketing?” He put too much emphasis on people and their petty little problems. What did she care about all their little dramas and issues in life?

Okay, sure the information on the movements and actions of the DEA, that was a whole different story, but nothing a good hacker worth their salt couldn’t get. After all, everything these days was digital. People lived and died by the holo.

“Oh, honey,” and there was sincerity in her voice as Larissa reached out to cup his cheek. She leaned in, seriousness etched in her expression and in her words so that nothing could be misconstrued as a joke, or sarcasm, or satire. “People like you and I? We’re never the good guys.” And as much weight as there was in the seriousness of that statement, there was no pity or regret. It was what it was.

This was the lot life had given them. Vels and Larissa had ended up here, across a table from one another with the powers they had and the games they played, from two very different circumstance but nothing changed the fact of what they were, what they did, what either of them were capable of.

For his part, Vels looked adorably offended. He leaned away from her hand, brows knitting as he stared at her as if he was waiting for her to laugh or explain that she didn't think he wasn't a hero. He waited, and waited (it felt like a long time for someone who had lived more in his 27 years than most did in 80-some).

Larissa and he were made from the same cloth. He knew that, but so far as he was concerned, a person decided whether or not they did the right thing -- and Vels? He did. Maybe not in a timely manner or the way that someone else would do it, but it got done and it was right in the end.

"Actually!" he chimed, getting distracted in his own head as he reviewed her statements, and chose the one that wouldn't end in a fight. "Sally's kind of cool. She's been buying off ANNie to talk up her sister's company Tacky Taco, which isn't a good restaurant, I've been there." he added quickly, "And! They've got this guy who stands out front dressed like a mouse, which doesn't make sense cause their mascot is a taco." He gave a shrug. "You'd like her -- she's got red hair. And glasses. Prescription."

He glanced up when he heard their names called again and glanced towards the stage.
